About four years ago, I wrote up a blog post (with an image) showing that the translators of the original 1611 King James Bible placed a marginal reference note next to Matthew 24:31 linking to Paul’s rapture and resurrection passages in 1 Thessalonians 4:16 and 1 Corinthian 15:52.
Why is this significant? Because most KJV Onlyists are pretrib who do not believe that Matthew 24:31 refers to the rapture, yet they are completely unaware that the KJV translators believed that Matthew 24:31 referred to the rapture.
(Moreover, even before 1611, no early church commentator on the Gospel of Matthew ever placed a separate coming of Jesus before Matthew 24:31 such as the rapture taking place before the great tribulation.)
So for pretribbers who invest ultimate authority into the textual and translational critical decisions of early 17th century Anglican churchmen, I thought I would resurrect (pun intended!) this article from the dusty blog archive concerning this interesting King James Bible fact.
