‘I have been thinking more about Janet Willis’s work, “What on Earth is Heaven Like”, and the more I think about it the more I think she is correct in her exposition regarding the Millennial Kingdom and the presence of the New Jerusalem on earth during the 1000 year Kingdom. I was pondering the subject and realized that a passage that has been a serious biblical conundrum makes perfect sense in light of Janet’s exposition. That is, Revelation 22:2 states, “…through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. THE LEAVES OF THE TREE WERE FOR THE HEALING OF THE NATIONS. Throughout Church history, many Brethren have struggled wondering how to make sense of the problem that we are told that the “leaves of the Tree of Life” would be for the healing of the nations when, according to the traditional view, the New Jerusalem does not come down out of heaven until AFTER the Millennial Kingdom (i.e., only later, in the so-called “Eternal State”, where there is no death or sickness), the problem is that, in the Eternal State, there would be no need for “healing of the nations” since only “immortals” would enter into the Eternal State. However, the leaves of the Tree of Life “for the healing of the nations” makes perfect sense in this passage if, in fact, the New Jerusalem (which will contain the Tree of Life) is actually present throughout the Millennial Kingdom, in which case, the leaves from the Tree of Life could be transported outside of the New Jerusalem and given to “mortals” who will be alive in the “nations” during the Millennium and could provide for actual “physical healing” of any infirmities mortals might have during the 1000 years. Thoughts?”
